Endtimes Techno-Boogie

PH and his boys have been busy this year.

The predominant message of the Roman Catholic Church is the message of peace. Furthermore, Catholic policy dictates that the pope dress in white. His helicopter, popemobile, and jet airplane are all white. If he had a horse, what color do you suppose it would be?

Disaster is all around us. Burma has sunk, retribution has found the Chinese, and twisters are destroying the midwest. It seems fairly obvious that we have (once again) reached the endtimes. Crazy talk, you say? A lot of people actually believe this sort of thing is likely to happen in their lifetimes.

On the other hand, actual religious authorities are getting more and more tolerant of the broader scientific worldview, and technology is changing the way we construct news and react to disasters. The ‘net, for better or worse, has made religious and scientific discussion endemic – and often interrelated.

It is the perogative of every religious generation to see itself as the one that will usher in the end of days; it’s natural – we all want to be part of something momentous. Now, I don’t see it that way myself, but am I the only one wondering how great hailstones would fare against reactive armor? Well… am I?

Chinese Special Police Get Torch Detail

Continuing the theme of Chinese Olympic heavy-handedness, it has come to light that the blue track-suited security detail that is accompanying the Olympic Flame on its global tour are hand-picked members of special police units of the People’s Armed Police, China’s internal security force. Already described by some as “thugs”, the same units tapped for torch security have reportedly also been dispatched to reassert control in Tibet.

According to sinodefense.com, Special Police are top-tier paramilitary, chosen for skills in martial arts, marksmanship and hand-to-hand combat.

From Failing Hands

Quote: “Beijing Olympic organizing committee spokesman Sun Weide denounced Sunday’s protests as ‘sabotage.’ ‘”A few Tibetan separatists attempted to sabotage the torch relay in London, and we strongly denounce their disgusting behaviour,’ said Sun.”

Over the weekend they tried. Today, one way or another, they did it. As it rode through Paris today, the Olympic torch was extinguished at least twice. Further protests are expected, Xinhua is presumably now in the dictionary next to “mouthpiece“, and the weird internet backlash has been going strong for about three weeks.

UPDATE: Just to spice up the current affairs links – I am sort of excited about this movie, and the fact that that there is now a firm release date for this.

FURTHER UPDATE: You all owe it to yourselves to have a look at Hull Breach, a Half Life 2 mod recently linked by Kotaku. It has an interesting dev team, totally awesome concept art, and a varied, fascinating OST. Check it out.
